Maui, Hawaii February 16 - 26, 2016

Sunsets...
We only had half a day today, our flight was at 2:00 pm and we had to check out of the condo at 11:00 am. Scott when surfing this morning and everyone else went swimming in the pool.
We had a wonderful time and we will miss Maui!
While here we had a tradition of being back at the condo for "Happy Hour" and then watching the sun set before we ate dinner. I have a lot of sunset photos, it is amazing how different each sun set is.
Happy Hour!

I love this photo of Brynn watching the sunset

We started to take photos of our drinks with the sun setting in the background

A fairly full glass of wine

I am still amazed at how different it was each day!

Lots and lots of people come to the shore to watch the sun set. This is the public access to the beach beside our condo.

Breakfast on the Beach
We headed back to Maluaka Beach/Turtle Beach which we have now renamed "Cinnamon Bun Beach". We picked up cinnamon buns for breakfast on the beach again, the surf was really high and we didn't even eat on the beach! Luckily there were some picnic tables up on the grassy area above the beach so we got to eat our sticky buns without sand!
We were thinking of doing some snorkeling again here but the waves were to big, we had fun at the waters edge with the girls jumping over the breaking surf.
Sticky Bun Breakfast Yum! and a beautiful view too!

The girls wanted some water to play with, Scott waiting for the perfect time to get into the water to scoop up a bucket

Surfing, Playground and Shave Ice
As we had such a busy day yesterday, today was very relaxed. Scott rented a surf board, and did some surfing. While Scott was surfing the girls played at the playground, we did some shopping and found my bucket list item for our trip to Hawaii, Shave Ice. This is Scott and I's 4th trip to Hawaii and we have never tried the local tradition of Shave Ice. I can report that it is very good, and if they ask, get the ice cream on the bottom and the sweet milk on the top!

The Road Beyond Hana....
Koki Beach for lunch
'Ohe'o Gulch/7 Sacred Pools at the Kipahulu Visitors Center of Haleakala National Park
After our visit to Wai'anapanapa State Park we headed out on the road past Hana.
We stopped for lunch at Koki Beach. We stopped here last time we did the trip, we thought that if the surf wasn't too big we could go for a quick swim. Not this time, the surf was just as massive as it was earlier in the day. We had a really nice picnic lunch, walked on the beach and watch some locals surf the big waves.

The water here is so blue!

After lunch we continued on the road past Hana, to make a stop at Kipahulu Visitors Center in Haleakala National Park. We visited the park a couple of days ago, to see the crater; the park extends all the way down the mountain side to the ocean. They have several short hiking trails in the 'Ohe'o Gulch. This is where you can swim in all the different pools of the creek/river as is comes down the mountain to the ocean. A refreshing swim in the cool fresh water.
Brynn fell asleep in the van on our way to the 7 Sacred Pools, so I waited in the van while she slept and Elyse, Scott and Scott's mom and dad did the short hike and went for a swim.

The water was quite cold, so Elyse is warming up on the black rocks. She calls this "being a mermaid!"

After stopping at the Park we headed again on the road beyond Hana to loop back around to the other side of the island. We did this last time too, and it made for a very enjoyable end to our trip to Hana and Beyond. We arrived back at the condo in time for dinner and a swim in the pool.
