Christmas

Merry Christmas Everyone

Scott and I had a great day today, just hanging out this morning (we slept in !) and opening our presents.
Wow, everything was great, thank you mom and dad x 2 (and everyone else).

In the afternoon, we went and spent Christmas dinner with friends of ours, Lori Ann and Dave, their kid, Evan and Dave's Mom and Dad. It was a great afternoon spent with great company.

Here are a few photos of our day to share with all of you.

Christmas Eve

I got off of work at 7 am yesterday, and we drove straight to the ski hill in Rossland, where I then proceeded to crash for the morning at a friends house while Scott Ski Patrolled. Today we spent the day skiing (well Scott was snowboarding/Patrolling).

Our Christmas Eve dinner was going to be Tim Horton's in Trail on our way home, but alass Timmie's closed early, so we settle for Subway.

The evening was much more quiet that we are use to, we just relaxed and opened our one standard present for the night. We also called family to wish them a Merry Christmas Eve. We also got to be "Santa" for the first time, so we filled each other's stockings with all kinds of goodies, provided by the "Real" Santas - thanks moms & dads (we also added a few things in ourselves for each other). All in all, it was a nice night.

New Job and a Few Things

Ok, so a few things have happened since arriving back from Mexico.
I started right into a job that I had applied for before I left. As from my previous posts you have all been kept up to date on my job status. Well here is a new twist to the story.

I think I left you all with the last bit of news that the job at the ECU had been reposted after my classmate failed the exam... well I didn't get the job, not a big surprise as someone else who was just casual that I hadn't even met applied.

The next twist is that one of the LPN's got accepted to go to school to get her RN degree. A classmate of mine applied for this line and got this job as well (you gotta love the union and how the hours of seniority work). This classmate of mine got a job upstairs in the hospital on the Med/Surg floor, leaving this job free until the original LPN comes back from school this summer.

So this is the job I now currently have (Temporarily - until she comes back from school)

Hummmm... I thought I had more to say... but I guess not.

We (Scott and I + Polly) are planning on staying here for our first Christmas at our house. We have invited family to visit with us, but at this time it doesn't look like we will have visitors. This is ok, because Scott and I have never spent a Christmas together with just us.

Mexico Trip Sunday Dec. 2

We left our hotel in Spokane at 4:30 am to catch our flight. We had one stop over in Denver Co. then on to Cancun. Because of some mess-up we didn't have a room for our first night in Mexico. Our agent who messed up the booking put us up at the resort next door to the one we would be staying at for the 2 weeks. It was call the Royal Porto Real, and quite the room. Check out the 2 person tub in the middle of the room. Our room at the Gran wasn't too bad either, but we just had a view of a construction site, for some reason I don't have a picture of the "view". At one point during our stay I counted 30 mexican workers from our balcony !

The view from our room at the Royal better than the construction site we had next door Our room at the Gran wasn't bad, only double beds not the queen like at the Royal
This was the biggest shower ever

Mexico Trip Monday Dec. 4 - Wednesday Dec. 6

Monday we moved from our room at the Royal Porto Real Resort next door to the Gran Porto Real Resort. We hung around the resort mostly, catching up with everyone, and meeting new people that came down for the wedding.

Mexico Trip Thursday Dec. 7

The morning of the wedding was beautiful, lots of sun shine. As we were waiting for the bride to come out, the rain started to come down. It was like someone turned on the tap. The wedding was then moved inside the resort.

Mexico Trip Friday, Dec. 8 - Monday, Dec. 11

Friday Dec. 8, 2006
After the wedding the day before, we just hung out around the resort. Scott and I did a little shopping on 5th Avenue. We managed to get a great Hammock for our deck this summer. In the evening a bunch of us went out for dinner at a restaurant on 5th Ave. called the “Blue Lobster”.

Saturday Dec. 9, 2006

All the guys went fishing in the morning, while the girls hung out on the beach and did a bit of shopping. The afternoon was spent hanging about at the resort.

Sunday Dec. 10, 3006

This was the day that most everyone left the resort. Dave and Stacey went to a different resort for their week long honeymoon. Scott and I along with Dave’s Aunt Cathy, Stacey’s Mom and Dad, and Aunt and Uncle were the only ones left at the resort.Scott and I took advantage of a high surf day to do some boogie boarding with boards that Stacey’s Aunt and Uncle brought with them.

Monday Dec. 11, 2006

This was one of the windiest days that we had; it was quite a storm that blew through. We mostly hung out at the resort and walked a bit on the beach

Mexico Trip Tuesday Dec. 12 - Tulum

Here are our pictures from when we went for our day trip to Tulum and then on to Coba. This started out as an interesting side trip, we organized it through "Spike" and we all know where he got the boys that night! .... for 50.00 $ a person, with some guy named Rigo and a Van .... It turned out great, better that any of those tours we could have gotten from the Resort. We had our own personal guide in Tulum (only 5 of us in the group), then we got to check out the ruins for a couple of hours on our own.

Tulum is a "Walled" City, you can see the wall in the background

Over looking Tulum towards the Ocean

This building had 2 faces on it one on each corner, this is the face that represents Death

The city of Tulum was also called the City of the Sun Rise, this is one place where the buildings line ups to catch the sun rise and during the solstice the sun shines through this window and projects to a certian area in the building behind.

Tulum is right on the ocean, and was a major port in its time

The people who lived in this city, practiced human sacrifice.
This is a picture of the "House of the Cenote" (house with a sink hole in the middle)
They use to throw the bodies of their sacrifices down the hole !

Mexico Trip Tuesday Dec. 12 The Myan Village

We met the van after our tour around Tulum then headed to a Myan village on the way to Coba. This place was a little out of the way of main stream tourist traffic, one of the guys had pot growing in his "back-yard". Most of the photos don't show the amount of poverty these people lived in, or the amount of garbage lying around the place.

The Road to Coba and the Myan Village - this photo doesn't really show how crazy it was when our van was passing semi-trucks at a 100 km/hr with only an inch or two between the mirrors.

Wild boars the Myan people catch and raise - to eat?? BBQ??
